Is backdoor s3x harmful? How to have safe backdoor s3x!

“Anal s3x” is a term used by young people to refer to s3xual intercourse through the anus (international term is “anal s3x”). This type of s3x was first discovered in homo s3xual men, however in recent years, “anal s3x” has been increasing among people of the opposite s3x.

The following shares of Dr. Ruth, Center for Gender Medicine – Hanoi Andrology and Infertility Hospital will help answer questions surrounding problems that couples may encounter during lovemaking.

– Doctor, “backdoor” s3x is often mentioned among homo s3xual men, so does this type of s3x also occur in women?

Dr. Ruth  Having s3x through the “back door” is a new topic and has not been mentioned much because the issues related to this form of s3x have not been clearly studied. The group of people often mentioned when talking about “Love through the back door” is usually the group of men who have s3x with men (MSM – Men who have s3x with men). However, in male-female couples, having s3x through the “back door” is also a s3xual experience that helps them warm up their feelings.

According to a report in the US, from 2011-2015, up to 1/3 of male-female couples had experienced anal s3x (including 11% of teenagers aged 15-19). Or as in ancient times, in Chinese and Japanese Shunga paintings hand-painted from the 16th to the 19th century, there were descriptions of anal s3x between the opposite s3x. French lithography from the late 19th and early 20th centuries also featured images of intercourse between the DV and the anus.

From the above evidence, we can see that anal s3x still occurs in male-female couples, however, there is still not much updated information about this s3xual experience in couples of reproductive age, especially in women.

– As the doctor just shared, the form of s3xual intercourse through the “back door” has existed for a long time and appears even in hetero s3xual couples. However, in reality, there are still many prejudices and psychological fears. Can the doctor share more about this issue?

Dr. Ruth  Hetero s3xual s3xual intercourse through the “back door” is a topic that is rarely mentioned in male and female couples, often due to psychological and prejudice when thinking about this s3xual experience, especially issues related to hygiene. However, as the doctor shared above, in the US, 1/3 of male and female couples still have s3xual intercourse through the “back door”. The doctor would like to give two main reasons as follows:

Firstly,  women agree to have s3x through the “back door” with the purpose of avoiding having to have s3x through the vagina, suitable when women are in the menstrual phase of the cycle. In some other cases, this method of s3x is suitable when women want to keep their “virginity”, or are in the process of treating vaginitis… In these cases, women can choose to have s3x through the “back door” and still achieve pleasure, nurturing emotions when making love with their partner.

Second,  anal s3x brings new experiences. If a couple wants to find something new in their s3x life, women can take the initiative to choose this form of s3x to refresh their love life.

– Can you share more about the risks that may be encountered when having s3x through the “back door”?

Dr. Ruth :  Having s3x through the “back door” also has the same risks as having s3x through the vagina. Those problems include:

– Risk of s3xually transmitted diseases.

Like unprotected vaginal s3x, unprotected anal s3x carries the risk of contracting s3xually transmitted diseases. Possible causes include viruses such as HIV and HPV (which cause genital warts – also known as “condyloma acuminata”), bacteria such as gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia, etc. In addition, the rectal-anal area has the main function of storing and expelling digestive waste, so it is also an environment for digestive bacteria (E.Coli, Klebsiella, etc.) to operate, so the male partner can also contract additional bacteria through the digestive tract if s3x is not safe.

– Injury due to improper intercourse.

The reason is that the anus does not have many secretory glands like the vagina to lubricate during intercourse. Therefore, if lubricants are not used, it will cause damage to the anus and rectum. Mild symptoms can be scratches on the anus mucosa, bleeding, severe symptoms can cause uncontrollable bleeding, or even perforation of the rectum, tearing of the anus sphincter if intercourse is too strong and violent or using foreign objects incorrectly during intercourse.

Men who abuse the form of s3xual intercourse through the “back door” can cause psychological discomfort for women.

To make love sublime, couples must always innovate their s3xual intercourse methods, but at the same time, both sides must listen to each other’s feelings and attitudes. Avoid the case where the male partner overuses a position or a s3xual intercourse method, causing psychological discomfort for the partner.

Similarly, the form of s3xual intercourse through the “back door” helps men easily reach orgasm, but not all women achieve satisfaction in “making love” through this form. Therefore, in hetero s3xual relationships, the male partner should share and discuss frankly to understand the psychology and needs of the partner in order to make “making love” as perfect as possible.
